The residency requirement is abolished: If you have unsubscribed from an unemployment fund because of the residency requirement, contact us

The residency requirement, which could affect your right to unemployment benefits if you had stayed outside Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, EU/EEA countries and Switzerland, will be abolished from February 1, 2020. This means that unemployment insurance fund members who have stayed abroad can once again receive unemployment benefits on an equal footing with other members.

If you are one of the people who have unsubscribed or been deleted from an unemployment fund due to the residency requirement, you can now quickly and easily join Min A-kasse. If you have previously been a member of an unemployment fund, your membership will be restored and you will be able to receive unemployment benefits from the 1st of the month in which your membership is restored if you meet the general conditions for receiving unemployment benefits. This means that you don't have to wait a year from when you became a member before you can receive unemployment benefits.

However, there are certain requirements that must be met:

• In the period January 1, 2019 through January 31, 2020, you have unsubscribed or been deleted from an unemployment insurance fund due to the residence requirement
• Have you resigned or been deleted from an unemployment insurance fund at a time when you did not meet the residence requirement based solely on your address in Denmark or Greenland (the residence requirement was five years within the last 12 years if you resigned in 2019, and six years within the last 12 years if you resigned in 2020),
• You must declare on your honour that you did not meet the residency requirement at the time you opted out

You do not need to be resident and living in Denmark at the time you apply for resumption. The resumption does not have to be in your previous unemployment fund. You can also choose to be reinstated in Min A-kasse.

You must pay state contributions for the period you have not been a member. We have chosen to cover your administration fee of DKK 115 per month. If you are a former member of Min A-kasse, you must go to Self Service, which you still have access to, before July 1, 2020 and respond to the letter we send you.

If you have not previously been a member of Min A-kasse, you must register. It is important that you provide us with the additional information requested after the payment before July 1, 2020, as you must state in your comments that you wish to be restored.
