"How can I best apply for jobs?". We get this question a lot.

There are many ways to apply for jobs. The way you do it depends on the industry you're applying for and of course on you as a person.

Some prefer to only apply for advertised positions, while others prefer to use their network and apply unsolicited. Both methods have their advantages.

How do you contact companies where you want to work?

If you've found a job posting that sounds interesting, it's a good idea to contact the company and find out more about the position. Show that you have familiarized yourself with the company and that you seem sincere in your motivation to apply for the job. By having a good chat about the company and the position, you stand out and get noticed. A call should last no more than about five minutes.

What should you remember before contacting companies where you want to apply for a job?

• Think about what you want to achieve with the conversation,
• Come up with 2-3 relevant questions that you need answers to.
• Decide how you want to start the conversation.
• Prepare how you want to present yourself.

Practice giving a short and concise presentation of yourself, pointing out what you can contribute.
